Report on the 3/18 and 4/15/06 Workshops
“Applying the Six Sigma Methodology to
Real
World Problems—Parts 1 & 2”
A total of 41 people were in attendance at these two workshops.
Six Sigma is an organized way to help businesses or other organizations
run better. By “run better” we mean doing a better
job of satisfying the needs of the customers and at the same making a
greater profit or staying within budget constraints.
During these two workshops the attendees used the DMAIC roadmap within
Six Sigma to apply the concepts to real world problems. The DMAIC
roadmap steps are

I Improve
C Control
A key element of this two-part series was to have the attendees identify
their own problems to which they would apply these principles. A
summary of the problems that were identified and addressed and necessary
skills improved is shown below:
Personal Skills:
-improve my time management capability
Business Skills:
-reduced the number of financial statement revisions
-improve my client acquisition process
-reduce the defects in my manufacturing process
-increase the sales dollars in my new business
-improve the cash flow of my business
-improve my approach for implementing ISO:2000
-increase the on-time delivery % of parts shipped from our machine
shops to our assembly operations
-increase the revenue from a new technical capability
-improve the capability of collecting and using client information
-increase my revenue from referrals
Church Skills:
-improve the quantity and quality of home teaching in my High Priests
Group
It was recommended that the participants acquire one or more of the
