“Applying the Six Sigma Methodology to Real World Problems—Part 1”

Six Sigma is an organized way to help businesses run better.  By “run better” we mean doing a better job of satisfying the needs of the customers of the business and at the same time making a greater profit.

During this workshop attendees will use the DMAIC roadmap within Six Sigma to apply the concepts to a real world problem they bring to the workshop.  It is assumed that the attendees have attended the 2/18/06 “Six Sigma Basics” workshop or in some other way have an introductory knowledge of the concepts that will be used.

Emphasis during this workshop will be placed on the

            D         Define
            M         Measure
            A         Analyze

phases of the methodology.  Follow up workshops will be held on 4/15/06 to cover

A         Analyze (to complete this phase)
            I           Improve
            C         Control

It was recommended during the 2/18/06 workshop that the participants acquire one or more of the following three resources:

            1.  “The Six Sigma Way—How GE, Motorola and Other Top Companies
Are Honing Their Performance”—Peter S. Pande

            2.  “The Six Sigma Way Team Fieldbook”—Peter S. Pande

            3.  “The Six Sigma Memory Jogger II”—GOAL/QPC
